Brooks Conrad is the man. There is no other way of saying it. That guy has single handedly saved 4-5 gamesw for us this season. I know that back tat hit the go ahead 2 run Jack and Coke, but it was Conrads triple that put some life back into the Braves. I had just gotten off the phone with my father in law, furious over Snitker sending THE SLOWEST PLAYER IN BASEBALL home from first on a double! Are you smoking crack Snitker? Not only was he out but it wasnt even close. McCann looked like he needed a IV. Anyway, up comes Conrad with me yapping about how we wont do ish this inning. Smack! Conrad drills a ball to the right center field gap (IMO should have been caught) that plates Melky. Back tat goes deep and the Braves lead. In comes Moylan: Australian for Sucks who gives up a dinger. All in all a good win. We have a 1.5 game lead for the WC but if im answering honestly I dont like our chances to get out of the Division Series if we do make the playoffs. We are sputtering offensively at the absolute worst time. Prado is down and out with a hip pointer. We shall see.
This offseason is a big one for the Atlanta Braves. We have some money coming off of the books and there is really only 1 move that needs to be made IMO. This 1 player will add the thing that his team has lacked for the last 3 years, a power hitting OF. We need to sign Adam Dunn. It has to happen. Dunn is only 31 and has averaged around 35 HR's a season to go along with a .380 OBP. Im thinking we can get him for 3 years 26-30 million. We have wagner coming off the books at 7 million per. This would add someone in the lineup that teams would fear. We dont have a single person in the lineup that comes up and people are afraid that he might go deep. McCann will catch one every once in a while when it looks like a 5 buck box it rocks it rocks from Taco Bell. Screw filling 1B and let Freeman start there from the get go. Hes supposed to be so good, lets see what he can do. Excercise your options on Infante and Gonzalez. I would like to get someone with some speed like a Scott Podsednick or something but not top priority. Top priority has to be to get a guy in here with some POP.
Im going through some sports articles on YAHOO! when I come across this article: http://sports.yahoo.com/golf/pga/news?slug=ap-rydercup-mcilroyflap on Rory McIlroy calling out my boy Tiger Woods. What McIlroy said was not all that bad but he needs to realize that if El Tigre gets pumped up and starts playing like the old El Tigre, thats no bueno for Europe. What the hell is he thinking? Doesnt he know that Tiger Woods is the BRO king of BRO Kings? The last 4 guys or so who have called out Woods he has dismantled them in Match Play. Best of luck McIlroy, your gonna need it.

Yo No Creo Garrett Hartley....Who Dat?? Some Braves talk and Troy Glaus Bashing
The Falcons rolled into Nawwlens on Sunday with a chip on their shoulder. Tired of being the Saints wipping boy the last few seasons. We have always for the most part played them tough but this was our time to show them that the NFC South rolls through Atlanta this year.
The game started out about as bad as it could have. We go 3 and out after harry Douglas does his best Michael Jenkins impression and drops a pass. We punt the ball to Lance freaking Moore who returns it 70 something yards to our 5 or so. Automatic TD a few plays later and Who Dat leads 7-0. The next drive showed me that this team is going to compete this year. Matt Ryan and Tony Gonzalez were straight abusing the Who Dat all game. Atlanta answers in 4 minutes and the game is tied. We could have easily folded up like a tent and gone down 10-0 or 14-0 before we even knew what hit us.
I dont know if this is a coincidence or not, but the Falcons appeared as if they wanted to take some shots down the field. They completed some long passes to both White and Gonzalez and it really opened up the middle of the field. I cant understand why Mularkey is so Bi-Polar with his playcalling? Let Matt Ryan run the entire offense. Keep taking those shots down the field and good things always seem to happen. I thought the combination of Turner and Snelling was fantastic. Around 180 yards between the 2 of them and both are bruising RB's. I love the bomb to Harry Douglas on the first play in OT. Puts the D on their heels and puts the fear into the defense.
When Hartley came up to kick the FG in OT, my service went out for a minute and I said "oh well hes going to make this anyway." Right then the game kicks back on and I see Matt Ryan going buck wild on the sideline. The falcons of old would have gone 3 and out and punted the ball right back to the saints. Not this time. The Falcons methodically worked their way down the field. In comes Matt Bryant who drilled the 46 yarder with plenty to spare to win the game. I dont know if some of you know anything about Matt Bryant but he lost his son to SIDS a couple years ago when he was kicking for the Bucs. I remember watching the NFL Countdown the day after his son died and if im not mistaken he drilled the game winning FG that day. I cant help but pull for him so im glad he made it. Who Dat?? Dat Matt Bryant.
Iv been very critical of the Braves as you all know but we still have a chance at the Playoffs. I dont know how since we have played terrible baseball the last 6 games or so but we do. I dont want to hear any excuses from anyone anymore. The time for that crap is up. If you want to make the playoffs then heres your chance. You absolutely control your own destiny and there is no one to blame if we dont make it but yourselves. Prado going down yesterday is not something we needed to see but nonetheless you have to go on. I hope they put Brooks Conrad in at 3B but they wont. They will play Troy Glaus whos bat is the same size as an oar. No joke he swings that thing i feel like yelling "Ryyuken". Referencing of course Street Fighter. But seriously that bat is obsurd. Why is it so big? Why doesnt he use a smaller bat so hes not blown away by 91 MPH cheese? Why when he swings does my watch quit working? Troy Glaus' bat is responsible for the Oceanic 815 crash. I just dont get it. He must have some pictures of Bobby Cox or something.

More Dumb Decisions...People from around the world say "Goodbye" to Bobby Cox
So let me see if I understand this correctly. The Philles early last week decided they were going to throw Oswalt on 4 days rest in order to set their rotation so that we have to face Hamels, Halladay and Oswalt for all 6 games they play the Braves. Jurjjens forgot to wear a tampon so he hurts his knee. Instead of the Braves bumping up everyone 1 freaking day we decide to start a guy who has never pitched at the ML level. It doesnt matter that he pitched ok, thats not the point. You cant honestly tell me that that decision gave you the best chance to win? A guy who looked like he was going to take a dump right their on the mound from being so nervous. A guy who has had success at THE MINOR LEAGUE LEVEL! NEWSFLASH, this isnt the Minors. But its all good bc we saved our aces for the freaking Nationals. Actually maybe that wasnt such a bad idea? The Nationals are world beaters.
You have a guy who is hitting .346 over the last 2 weeks after finally getting healthy. He is clearly hot right now and probobly gives you the best CHANCE to win. He can cover more ground in the outfield and doesnt look goofy. On the other hand you have Melky Cabrera who might as well be Paul Bunyon since he chops everything into the ground. You can honestly tell me that Cabrera gave you the better chance to win?
The Bobby Cox report or whatever its called after the game should be "Im a moron hear me roar". When asked about the game Cox replied "Well we had more hits than they did".
<Long pause for laughter>
Long story short I cant wait for BC to be gone. Goodbye to the days of being everyones best friend. Goodbye to the lack of accountability for anyone. Hast Luego to the snide comments he makes. Shalom to no base stealing. Auf Wiedersehen to looking crabby in the dugout. Vi snakkes to having another Chris Reitsma or Greg Norton. Annyong-hi Kashipshio Bobby Cox!

Come strong or dont come at all....Braves and Falcons
As most of you know I have been very hard on the Braves over the last few weeks. Well its time to put up or shutup. No excuses over the last few weeks as you have 6 games with the Phillies and 3 each against the Marlins and Nationals. For all the bad baseball have they have played over the last 10 games or so they still hold their own fate in their hands. Are you going to man up or pull the same BS that you have the last 4 years? No one can say you didnt earn it! You got Hamels, Halladay and Oswalt going for Philly. Step up Atlanta!
The Falcons came home to face the Arizona Cardinals in what was basically a must win game for the Falcons. A beatdown ensued and the Falcons won easily 41-7 behind a HUGE day from my boy Jason Snelling! Jerious Norwood was hurt on the opening play when he tripped over his left foot trying to run back the kick off. Does this surprise anyone? Can we just cut the guy and be done with it? Anyway back to the game. Matt Ryan looked good but I have to tell you that his lack of arm strength really worries me. He made a few throws that could have easily been picked off but were either dropped by the defense or went right through their hands. I have to give some credit to the defense. They have looked great! 1 play was all Arizona got all day. In their 2 games the D has given up 15 and 7 with both TD's coming on runs of 50 and 80 yards respectivelly. If we can get that kind of effort every week then we are going to have the chance to win a lot of games.
Michael Turner was off to a fast start before leaving the game with a groin injury. Insert Jason Snelling. Can I say that I have been high on this guy ever since he played at UVA. Being a huge Tech fan I got to watch him run all over the Tech defense for years and I was very pleased when the Falcons drafted him. Hes like a Turner clone but a little heavier. Snelling had a huge day rushing for over a hundo and a couple of scores.
I really like Harry Douglas. And as you all know the only sounds Harry heard last year was POP, POP. He needs to be our big play guy. He is quick as hell and has a great burst once he catches the ball. I really hope Mularkey is planning on using him in some go routes. Ryan had him on 1 play but just overthrew him.
All in all it was a good sports weekend in Atlanta and to be honest I think I had something to do with it. Both the Falcons and Braves read my blog and got fired up.

Get your nostrils off his Jockstrap!
So I pull up my facebook this morning and my buddy has sent me a link to a column written by Mark Bradley. You can find this jock sniffing article here: http://blogs.ajc.com/mark-bradley-blog/2010/09/16/am-i-the-only-one-in-the-world-who-likes-the-braves-chances/?cxntlid=sldr
Before I completely dismantle his entire article let me start by saying that this is what is wrong with Atlanta sports. Their is absolutely no accountability in this city whatsoever. You can play shitty baseball for 2 weeks at the most crucial time of the year and everyone in the "media" just turns a blind eye. I hope Bradley reads this and responds. He prob wont but that I would leave to see how he defends it. Mark Bradley has his nose so far up Bobby Cox's ass he cant even see straight.
As he says in his article:
"Nobody likes the Braves anymore because (pick one or more) Cox is a moron and Frank Wren is a moron and Derek Lee is a has-been and Troy Glaus was a one-month wonder and these players have no heart and would just as soon lose now as lose in the playoffs."
I will tell you what. I will take all of the above for $500 please Alex.
Bobby Cox IS a moron. Tell me another manager who has been given a team that consisted of 3, count them 3 Hall of Fame pitchers on the same team in their prime? And we win 1 world series? My 10 month old could manage that team and get the same results. Oh and by the way the Marlins, yes the freaking marlins have 2 WORLD SERIES TITLES since 1997! But you are right Bobby Cox is awesome. He is easily the most overrated manager in the history of baseball. Oh wait, he gets thrown out a lot so that must count for something right?
Frank Wren IS a moron. Derek Lowe 4 years 60 million. Kenshin Kawakami 3 years 23 million. Chipper Jones 3 years 42 million. He has traded for Nate McLouth, Rick Ankiel, Kyle Farnsworth, Ryan Church, Casey Kotchman and Melky Cabrera. Thats about as close to an All Star team as you can get right there. He has made some good moves in trading for Jurrjens and Infante but this isnt even close. Dont forget we have our hands tied bc of the first 3 contracts. He has also signed Troy Glaus and traded for Derek Lee. The Glaus signing (regardless of the fact we got him for 2 million) is just awful. Quikrete shoes hit .194 in march/april, .330 in May, .237 in June, .182 in July, .208 in August and is currently hitting .273 in 11 at bats thus far in September. Derek Lee has been a disaster since coming over. I give a pass on this one since we got him for nothing. Long story short knowing everything I have just written what grade would you give him?
"The Playoff probabilities on ESPN.COM show the Braves, Padres and Giants in a virtual dead heat."
Your right, I feel much better now knowing that the espn probablities still like our chances. Is this a joke? My BRO meter says your a dousche. A rather large one.
"It will come down to the Braves and the second-place club out West, which could be the Padres or the Giants, neither of which hits very much, but it could also be Colorado, which is the scariest team in the world in September."
And the Braves hit?? Please tell me your joking? Do the Braves have better pitching than the Giants? I dont think so. But its all good we have Troy Glaus and Derek Lee and Derek Lowe and Kenshin Kawakami and Nate McLouth all lined up and ready to do good! Thanks alot Frank Wren.
"Not to be pedantic, but the Braves must win as many of these remaining 15 as they can, and 10 ought to do it."
WTF does pedantic mean? You do realize 6 of those games are against the Phillies? And you do know the Phillies have set their pitching up so we face Halladay, Hamels and Oswalt in all 6 of those games? That would also require the Braves to acutally score some runs. Not get shutout by guys you have never heard of. Dont worry though, you dont want to be pedantic.
"Folks, this can still happen. So why do I feel like I’m talking to myself"?
Your not. Bobby Cox and Frank Wren are listening.
Something else that this article doesnt bring up but I want to address again. Getting to the playoffs does not equal a successful season. Winning the World Series is the goal and anything short of that is a failure. I for one am sick of the "if we make it great, if we dont ehh" attitude. Enough already! Man up and make a play.

Hasta Luego Bobby, the playoffs and my night
So yesterday im hanging around the house and was thinking about some things some of my fellow Braves fans have said to me over the last few weeks. They seem to think that I am being a little to hard on the Braves and that all is not lost. While I completely disagree with them I figured I would try and be optimistic for the game last night. I was optimistic for all of 2 innings. Jurrjens throws Adam Dunn a changeup that did nothing but change the outcome of the game. Dunn sends a bomb to right center that reminded me of a Jay Kapp moonshot off of Tiny Tim in the Atlanta Wiffle Ball League. Absolutely crushed. So now we are down 2-0 which might as well be 7-0 since we cant score any. Now im in a terrible mood, but then I realize that Teen Mom comes on tonight. I call my buddy Mike and we are bitching over the the Braves and we both agree that this team needs a spark of some sort. I suggested grabbing a couple mini bottles of Soco and throwing them in the dugout. I would bet my life that Chipper Jones would fight anyone for those 2 shots of happiness. I get it though Chipper. I would drink like a fish to if i had to come to the park everyday and listen to Bobby yap about how "well we just got beat tonight." No shit. So now im in the car on my way to Boston Market and explaining to Mike that I can throw harder than Livan Hernandez. So in essence were getting mowed down by a guy with the body type of Grady Jackson who tops out at about 83 mph. To make things worse I dont get the right sides at Boston Market. Now im ready to kill someone. Just as I turn the radio back up I hear that Fatty Hernandez has gone deep! Are you kidding me!!?? I get home and my wife has ordered Letters To Juliet on PPV. This is actually an upgrade over watching the Braves. About an hour in I get a few texts asking me how much I hate the Braves. This means only 1 thing. We are now lowing by more than when I started watching the movie. After the movie I turn it to Braves Live to see we got shutout 6-0 and now have to listen to Fred Hickman, Brian Jordan, Ron Gant and Jerome Jurenovich. Have you ever seen a white guy named Jerome? I rest my case. By this time its almost time for Teen Mom to start. I heard that Gary from the show is related to Livan Hernandez. Not sure if its true but they are built the same.
You might ask "Why do you like the Braves if you bash them so much?" I have a huge love/hate relationship with the Braves. Im not going to rant on and on about how much of a joke it is we only won 1 championship and all that. I just get sick of how everyone just acts like it is ok that we are average. No one seems to hold anyone accountable in this city. Bobby Cox has gotten a free pass for the last 20 years and people look at me like I have a 3rd nipple when I bash him. Chipper Jones is what he is now. Hes an AVERAGE player who will only play 2/3 of the games. Why should he continue to get paid like a superstar when he is not? We don't owe him anything. He actually owes us. We basically have paid him the almost 200 million dollars he has earned over the course of his career here. Why is Terry Pendleton employed? What is the point of a hitting coach if we cant hit. We have the most skewed stats of any team in baseball. We will play a 3 game series where we score 0, 2 and 11 runs in 3 games. Everything appears fine since you say "we scored 13 runs in 3 games. Well we basically were shut out and the 3rd game was pad your stats night. The Braves problem is they are so predictable. I could of told you last night was going to happen bc that is the MO of this team for the last 4 years. We will prob come out today and win taking the series. The only problem with that is the Phillies are going to sweep and winning 2 out of 3 isnt good enough anymore. ITS NOT GOOD ENOUGH ANYMORE! The Phillies are going to throw Oswalt on 4 days rest over the weekend in order to set their rotation so that we have to face Oswalt, Halladay and Hamels the 6 games we play them to close the season. Game over. Put a fork in us we are done. So now we are basically praying that the Giants and Rockies lose. Not a good strategy.
So you think i should be optimistic? Why when I already know what is going to happen. Ok so we make the playoffs. ANYTHING SHORT OF WINNING A WORLD SERIES IS A FAILURE. The goal is to win. The goal is not to lose. Maybe we need a Samuel L. Jackson rise up promo to get us pumped up? All i know is im not holding my breath.

Run 7 yards and turn around
The Falcons opened up the 2010 football season with a game at the mighty Pittsburgh Steelers. I personally thought this was a great opening game for us as it would show where we stand early but at the same time was very very winnable. As most of you know Pittsburgh starting QB Chester the molestor was suspended for the first 4 games for living up to his nickname. Not only did we lose, but it was the way we lost. The defense was FANTASTIC! Holding the Steelers to only 15 points (only 9 in regulation). What was very discouraging was it was very evident the same things are holding this team back that was a problem last year. I know its only 1 game in but are we ever going to throw the ball deep? Is Matt Ryan going to have 2-3 passes each game that are thrown to the wrong team? Are we going to continue to miss FG's?
I like Matt Ryan. In fact I like him alot, but what has he done that has earned him the nickname "Matty Ice"? He has ice water running through his veins? I sure hope not bc he would be dead. I think the more appropriate nickname until proven otherwise should be Noodle Arm McGee. I personally saw Matt Ryan in person 3 times his senior year at BC. Afterward i said to mysef that this kid can play but I don't know if hes got the arm to make all the throws. My buddy Jason and I saw him at the ACC championship game and there were multiple times his passes floated on him. In the game today we ran the "Deep out" what seemed like every 3-4 plays or so. Thats good and all that we completed some passes but you cant keep going to the well everytime. It was this play that Polamalu picked off that almost cost us the game right there. Now obviously Noodle Arm Ryan should not have thrown the ball since he stared it down the whole way but can we try every once in a while to throw the ball deep? You wonder why we have defenders draped all over our guys all the time? Its probobly becuase they know that Troy Glaus has a better chance of hitting a fastball than the Falcons do of throwing the ball deep.
And what the hell is so great about Jerious Norwood? The guy spends more time in the hospital than McDreamy. He dropped 2 passes today that hit him in the hands. Directly on the phalanges. I was at a Jimmy Buffet concert last month and they busted out the beach ball. Everyone was having a great time smacking it around until suddenly it popped. It was that damn Jerious Norwood and his stone hands! Crushed the ball and ruined the fun for all of us. He tried to play it off and change the subject by telling everyone it was 5 oclock somewhere. No one was buying it.
I still think the Falcons have a very good team but i know I am not the only one who is asking these questions. Here is hoping the Falcons can Rise up!

Its not a coincidence Boise State is BSU
With their win over VT Last night it appears as if Boise State will go undefeated this year and be in the running for a national title shot. Thats only if they get by World Beater, Big Boy Oregon State first! HAHAHA what an absolute joke. Boise State is BS, both literally and figuratively. What an absolute joke it would be for a team that plays 2 meaningful games all year to have a chance to play for it all. ANYONE can get up for 2 games each year when you know the other 9 are going to be cakewalks. Your players will stay fresh since they only have to play a half in over 80% of their games since the games will be in hand by the 3rd quarter. I challenge anyone who is on this BS bandwagon to make a legitamate argument as to why they deserve this opportunity. Dont even bother trying to compare schedules with anyone in the SEC bc that is laughable. People outside of the SEC, and the south really, don't understand the grind that it takes to go on the road and play someone like Arkansas. Then come home next week and play Florida, to then turn right around and go to South Carolina. Then come home and play Ole Miss to turn right around and go to Tennessee. Then you get a bye week and what do you get? You have to go to LSU for a night game. I bet they wish we could swap out LSU for Wyoming. Get the point? That is Bamas schedule and thats not counting their home game against Penn State and the last game of the year against Auburn. Oh and then if they win the west, they have to play someone like Florida or Georgia again. The same case can be made for Florida, or Oklahoma (to a lesser extent), Ohio State and Texas.
I am not saying that BS is not a good football team. Of course they are a good football team. However, dont give me all this crap that they have earned their right to play in the title game. they haven't earned anything. You earned the most joke of a schedule in the world and that is all. They would have won 2 games all year that actually meant something. 2 GAMES! One of which is an average team in Oregon State. VT is a good football team but once again Bama has 4 VT's on their schedule.

Carry On, Freddie Marvin Freeman and some football talk
Carry On My Heyward Son has been absolutely on fire and deserves to be the ROY. Statistically he is not above Buster Posey but that is not the point. He played a majority of the time hurt and it was pretty evident that it was affecting his swing. Heyward plays and has been a MAJOR contributor to the team with the best record in the NL. I know i crap on the Braves alot but that is just how I am. When I see a team that has a real chance to do something year start to let it slip it gets me going. If we can finish this year out strong I think we could make some real noise come playoff time.
Freddie "Marvin" Freeman made his ML debut last night for the Braves. For over a month now Freeman has been crushing the ball down in AAA while Troy Glaus couldnt hit a beach ball. Why they waited all this time to bring him up is beyond me. To each their own i guess. Now that he is hear I think that he could be a very big part of our postseason success. He is a young kid (21) who has had great success everywhere he has been. he has serious power and that is something that is a real asset to have coming off the bench in pinch hit situations.
I dont want to ramble on and on about football but something that is really chapping my ass is all this Boise State nonsense. Did you know over the last 5 years Boise is 7-8 against BCS conferences? They play 2, count them 2 tough games all year. The first being against VT where they have had an entire offseason to prepare. They then play a bunch of patty cakes patty cake bakers man after that until they play, wait for it, wait for it, waiiiitttt for it, Oregon State! Real world beaters they are. All I knw is if they played any schedule in the SEC its a gauranteed 2 losses. The grind it takes to win on ther road in the SEC and then have to come home and play someone like Alabama, Georgia, LSU or Florida is incredible. A part of me hopes they make it the national title game and play Alabama so they can get thrashed and all this BS will stop.
